Keep Calm and Carry On Friends!

I’ve aways felt that I had really great people around me who I’d consider experts at what they do and I’ve always envisioned bringing them together. Carry On Friends is that dream realized as we, the writers offer our own take on life from our interests and experiences whether it entertains, empowers or it educates you.

So why the name Carry On Friends? Let me tell you it was a struggle to find a name – at least one that I really really loved and not just settled for. I had written the Finding My Voice post but still hadn’t decided on a name. It started to get frustrating because the “name storming” as I called it wasn’t yielding promising results.

Inspiration

Finally inspiration came after reading Glamour Magazine’s October 2013 interview of Kerry Washington Yes I’m a Gladiator but I’m no waggonist. My family and close friends will you that I’m a huge fan of Shonda Rhimes because I’ve been a Grey’s Anatomy fan since the very start as well as the spin off Private Practice. Being that Ms. Washington and I have the same name is a plus but really I’ve liked her work especially in The Last King of Scotland and Ray. In the article there was a photo caption that said “Keep Calm and Kerry On” and I thought how cute. The next morning i got up with an inspiration that fit into exactly what I want to do which was to gather my friends and share our interests, our take on life and experiences.

Meaning

Carry on can mean either of the following:

a. to manage; conduct.

b. to continue without stopping:

c.to continue to live, work, etc., despite a setback or tragedy; persevere.

1: to continue especially in spite of hindrance or discouragement

2: to behave or speak in a foolish, excited, or improper manner

All of which are general themes I want to convey, even yes excited and foolish because life can’t always be serious. It could be interpreted so many ways which makes it fun.

Consider how we feel secure with our carry on bag, you can think of it as carry on friends – don’t travel without them.

When asked in the interview about what keeps her grounded, Kerry Washington responded “…friends and family, and a really good therapist…” There you have it folks.

So my motto for this blog is take what resonates with you and carry on!
