The Perspective Gift Reminder

Today is my little brother’s birthday…Happy Birthday Chris!

Two weeks ago, March 27, 2014 Chris had a terrible accident which left him in critical condition.

However, if you spoke to my brother on the day of the accident or any day after, you would not have known that his injuries were serious or even if he really had any injuries at all. He was positive and sounded like ‘normal’ – laughing, upbeat and being his usual sarcastic self, all the while reassuring us that he was fine.

Despite having multiple surgeries he continuously told us not to worry because it could have been worse. Indeed, it really could have been. While he is out of the hospital, he still has a long way to go but that has not stopped him from going to the movies with his friends. Yes…his friends took him to the movies and they saw Lego which was the movie showing at the time. I couldn’t believe that despite being bandaged up he went to the movies. I guess anything to get him out the house and carry on as usual.

What my little brother reminded me of throughout his ordeal, was that in everything we must give thanks to God. Most importantly he reminded us that we should look on the bright side of and keep things in perspective. Regardless of what we are going through the situation could always be worse. I know it sounds cliché but we truly never appreciate the truth in under circumstances like this, until it hits close to home.

Let us hope that we don’t all have to experience life threatening events to be reminded that perspective is a gift.
